What if there was a way to look like a million bucks with as little effort as possible? Here at MenScience, we’ve put together a short list of men’s grooming basics that should be the core of your men’s grooming and skincare routine. Follow these six simple men’s grooming tips to look great without overwhelming your schedule or breaking the bank.
1. Get a haircut: This is pretty obvious, but many men go months without cutting their hair. If you’re tired of your hairstyle, check out our men’s hairstyle slideshow to freshen up your look. To give your look an extra boost, consider a hair pomade or hair styling gel. Both men’s grooming products can provide a strong hold to keep your hair styled throughout the day.
2. Get a close shave: A lot of factors play a role in getting a close shave. First, find the right razor for your skin (read our razor guide for help). Next, look for a men’s shave formula that’s proven to reduce ingrown hairs and irritation – a foamless formula provides a closer shave than other shaving products. Finally, use a men’s after-shave product to soothe your skin; your skin is extremely sensitive after shaving.
3. Get a men’s face scrub: Soap and water do more harm than good to your skin, stripping it of essential oils. Instead, use a face scrub for men to exfoliate your skin and deep clean your face without over drying it. Exfoliating regularly can help reduce the appearance of acne breakouts as well as acne scars. 4. Get a men’s face moisturizer: Dry skin can cause flakiness, redness and other annoying skin issues. Moisturizing daily provides your face with much-needed moisture that can keep your skin smooth and supple. For best results, always apply men’s moisturizer immediately after showering – your pores will absorb more of the product this way. Check out “5 Dry Skin Causes for Men” for more information on dry skin.
5. Get a men’s body lotion: You might be tempted to use your face moisturizer on the rest of your body – don’t do it. Your face is more sensitive than the skin found elsewhere. For your body, it’s best to use a men’s body lotion that contains professional-grade water-binding ingredients. The same rule applies here: use within five minutes of showering to lock in more moisture.
6. Get a men’s anti-aging cream: Nobody wants to look their age. To reduce the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines, you need an anti-aging cream for men. By applying a men’s anti-aging cream regularly, you can maintain a youthful appearance and slow down Father Time. Also, consider a men’s eye cream for eye-area problems like dark circles and undereye bags, which can also make you look older.
