Natural Ways to Prevent Prostate Cancer

Prostate cancer is a disease that has affected many men. In fact, there are approximately 240,000 U.S men who are suffering from the said condition. A prostate is an organ found in the male reproductive system. It is shaped like a walnut and is located under the bladder, in front of the rectum. Its main role is to produce the milky white fluid that aids in moving and nourishing the sperm cells.

A prostate cancer is basically caused by a change in the DNA of prostate cells that is reproducing more swiftly, causing the prostate to swell.  While the exact cause of prostate cancer remains unknown, some of the risk factors are pointed out to these cancer cell formations. Age, race, heredity, diet, hormones, cadmium, selenium and vitamin E are common risk factors of this malignancy.

Living a healthy lifestyle helps prevent this malignancy. Some of the natural ways to prevent prostate cancer are the following:

Staying active

Studies have shown that men who are involved in a regular activity have a reduced risk of prostate cancer. It is not a myth that physical activity positively helps the body in many ways; energy balance, antioxidant defense, and DNA repair are some of them. Therefore, a few hours a week of physical activity can help the body prevent chronic diseases.

Give way to a Healthy diet

A healthy diet plays an important role in preventing prostate cancer. People with high-fat diet are most likely susceptible to prostate cancer than those who consume a balance diet with fruits and vegetables. A very high consumption of calcium is also associated with prostate cancer, therefore, a well-balanced diet should be considered.

Lycopene is widely known to reduce the risk of cardiovascular diseases and prostate cancer in men. It is a powerful antioxidant that has disease-fighting properties which helps protect the healthy cells from the harmful free radicals. This substance cannot be produced by our bodies, and so it is found in some fruits and vegetables. Tomatoes and tomato products, grapefruit, and watermelon are very abundant in lycopene hence; consuming them lowers the level of Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) in the blood.

Red wine contains a high amount of resveratrol – a type of polyphenol that are commonly produced as a component in a plant’s defense system. Resveratrol, along with other types of polyphenol are investigated for their cancer-fighting characteristic and other inflammation. Resveratrol are abundant in grapes, raspberries, and peanuts.

Pamper yourself

Along with a regular exercise, masturbation or a straight-up sex turns out to be helpful in preventing prostate cancer. As stated by Graham Giles, Ph. D., Seminal fluid contains substances that are carcinogenic. A regular ejaculation fulfilled through masturbation or sex will help clean out your pipe.

Early stages of prostate cancer are unlikely to cause symptoms because the tumor is so small. Most often, symptoms occur when the tumor is large enough that it affects other organs such as the urethra or the bladder. Just like any other cancer conditions, prostate cancer can be life-threatening, and so prevention is highly encouraged.
