MenScience FAQ

Why should I avoid the sun while using a product with Alpha Hydroxy Acid(AHA)?

AHA is great at exfoliating the top layer of dead skin cells for a smoother, fresher appearance. However, these dead cells also act as a protective cover to healthy, sensitive cells underneath. Because the new cells they reveal are more susceptible to sunburns, it’s important to wear a sunscreen of SPF 30 (like our TiO2 Sunblock) when using an exfoliating product to provide your skin with adequate protection. Using AHA does not directly damage your skin, but using a product with AHA and NOT using a sunscreen can. Exfoliating promotes a smoother, healthier appearance overall (and can actually promote a more even tan later on), but just make sure to wear a sunscreen to protect your more-sensitive skin (and try not to exfoliate a day or two before you head to the beach).
