I’ve always wondered how long it would take my body to lose the hard-gained benefits of exercising. Is it days? Weeks? Well, it turns out that if you’ve been exercising for more than six months, you can maintain most of that level of fitness for a few weeks — but that’s only if you still work out at least a couple times a week. After 2-3 months, your gains really start decreasing unless you go back to a more demanding workout schedule.
So next time you’re upset for not being able to keep your regular workouts — maybe you have too much work, maybe you’re going out of town — remember that it doesn’t have to be “all or nothing”; as long as you still manage to squeeze in a workout or two per week, you should buy yourself enough time to get organized and resume a comprehensive fitness plan. – Federico
