How to Prevent Sunburn in Men

If you are planning on being outside for longer than about 15 minutes when the sun is shining, then you need to know how to prevent sunburn. There are several ways that you can make sure you don’t get sunburned based on how old you are and where you are at.

1. Wear Sunblock

This is a no-brainer. The fairer your skin, the more SPF you probably need. Typically, anything more than SPF 30 is a waste of money. Higher SPFs offer only a tiny bit more protection but charge you an arm and a leg for it. A waterproof sunblock for men with an SPF of 30 is what you should look for. The broad-spectrum protection offered by MenScience TiO2 Sunblock SPF 30 makes it an ideal companion at the beach. It blocks both UVA and UVB rays that can damage your skin and cause unsightly, painful sunburn.

2. Use an Umbrella

When you are at the beach, one of the things you can do to help prevent the sun burning you is to sit under an umbrella. You still need to use sunblock, but if you don’t have the sun directly hitting you, then the chances of you getting burnt decrease. Place the umbrella in a spot that will completely block the sun. As the day progresses, you might have to move the umbrella so that it blocks the rays of the sun.

3. Avoid Peak Hours

Try not to go out in the sun in the middle of the day. The rays of the sun are strongest from about noon to two in the afternoon; this is the time you’re likeliest to get burned. Try to find something to do inside until later in the afternoon or evening. If you want to go outside in the middle of the day, try to find a place that has a lot of shade (see #2). Sitting in an area that has a building blocking the sun is a great idea. You should also avoid staying outside for long periods of time. If you must stay outside for a while, make sure you apply your sunscreen at least once an hour.

4. Throw on a Hat and Shades

When you are at home and doing things outside, you can wear a large hat to cover your head. The shade that the hat provides will usually decrease the chances of you getting sunburned. Don’t forget sunglasses either: The sun can really do a number on your eyes if you aren’t careful. Finally, don’t neglect your lips. Peeling and chapping can be prevented by using a men’s lip balm with sun protection. MenScience Advanced Lip Protection offers superior defense against the sun’s harmful rays.
