More and more men are delving further into the skincare and grooming world. Long gone are the days where bar soap was the extent of many men’s skincare regimens. Face scrubs, body lotions, lip balms… the types of men’s skincare products available has soared. And it’s not just the average Joe who’s taking more care of his appearance. This rise in popularity of men’s skin care and grooming has extended overseas to an unlikely group: U.S. soldiers.

A recent story in the Wall Street Journal spotlights a new trend among soldiers: eyebrow plucking. Some soldiers are asking local barbers in Afghanistan to help shape their eyebrows for a well-groomed appearance.  While the Marine Corps’ grooming regulations state “excessive plucking or removal of eyebrows is not authorized, except for medical reasons,” enforcement is lax because there isn’t a concrete definition of what’s considered excessive. According to the article, some soldiers stumbled upon the look when they were trying to get rid of a unibrow.  Others simply liked the look.

Whether you pluck your eyebrows or not, one thing is for sure:  Men’s skin care and grooming has  has changed since your father’s time.
